Solvang Senior Center - Who We Are

We’re the Santa Ynez Valley’s Senior community “hub”, the place where seniors find programs, activities, and connections to resources with tools to enjoy vital and independent lives. Keeping their minds sharp, bodies healthy and spirits soaring.

About Us

The Center’s programs and the camaraderie of its members improve the physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being of mature adults in the Valley, providing seniors with tools to live vital, independent lives.

Incorporated in 1978, the Solvang Senior Center is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization that is supported by individual memberships, donations, and grants from area foundations, businesses, and government.

How We Do It

Our vision is that as people age they remain connected to their community, experiencing a life enriched with meaning and fulfillment.

Our programs and activities focus on promoting healthy aging with tools to enjoy vital and independent lives. The quantity and the variety of our offerings provide exciting opportunities for seniors to find activities that suit a wide range of interests – keeping them active and engaged.

Real people, Real stories

The Center is a one stop shop for Joann. She has not only found the exercise classes she was looking for, but also takes part in monthly dinners, social outings, and also volunteers when ever possible.

“I found the Center when I moved back to the community to be close to family. I was looking to make new friends and a place that would help me stay busy and active. I now volunteer once a week at the front desk, keep the in-house library in shape, and have made wonderful friends.”

“Without the Center, I don’t know how we would have manages during my husband’s illness. I’ve been just too tired to prepare meals at night. You are lifesavers.”

“The Center has enriched life for me by providing activities for me to take part in as my life changes. I receive well-balanced meals and am surrounded by friends who keep me top of mind.”

Our History

The Center has been helping and serving seniors for over 40 years. Learn more about our milestones.

1978

The organization began in the late 70’s when valley seniors met at the Community Action Committee Senior Center. Activities, meals, and classes were held in such places as St. Mark’s, Memorial Hall, and Ranch Club Mobile Estates.

1978

The search was on for a permanent site for the Senior Citizen Center with support form the Tri-County Commission Area on Aging. The old Los Olivos school building had been earmarked and approved by the county Board of Supervisors and the State before it was gutted by fire in November.

1982

The Santa Ynez Valley Multi-Purpose Senior Center  was our latest home. This year also brought good news that there was support to build a permanent center on the grounds behind the Veterans Memorial Building.

1983

Grand opening of the new CAC/Senior Citizen’s Center at 1745 Mission Dr. Contributions totaling $100,000 from more than 300 local residents and community groups helped make it happen.

2016

Through the support of the Valley Rotary Clubs, the leadership of the Los Olivos Rotary Club, and Center members, a beautiful Tai Chi Garden was built on a neglected lot next to the Center. This afforded our members the opportunity to take part in Tai Chi in the fresh air and allowed us more space. A lovely covered picnic area was also installed.

2018

The Solvang Senior Center Steering Committee was formed to explore the possibility of replacing our aging modular units with a much larger brick and mortar building. The beginnings of our Campaign began.
