Real people, Real stories
The Center is a one stop shop for Joann. She has not only found the exercise classes she was looking for, but also takes part in monthly dinners, social outings, and also volunteers when ever possible.
“I found the Center when I moved back to the community to be close to family. I was looking to make new friends and a place that would help me stay busy and active. I now volunteer once a week at the front desk, keep the in-house library in shape, and have made wonderful friends.”
“Without the Center, I don’t know how we would have manages during my husband’s illness. I’ve been just too tired to prepare meals at night. You are lifesavers.”
“The Center has enriched life for me by providing activities for me to take part in as my life changes. I receive well-balanced meals and am surrounded by friends who keep me top of mind.”
Our History
The Center has been helping and serving seniors for over 40 years. Learn more about our milestones.
1978
The organization began in the late 70’s when valley seniors met at the Community Action Committee Senior Center. Activities, meals, and classes were held in such places as St. Mark’s, Memorial Hall, and Ranch Club Mobile Estates.
1978
The search was on for a permanent site for the Senior Citizen Center with support form the Tri-County Commission Area on Aging. The old Los Olivos school building had been earmarked and approved by the county Board of Supervisors and the State before it was gutted by fire in November.
1982
The Santa Ynez Valley Multi-Purpose Senior Center was our latest home. This year also brought good news that there was support to build a permanent center on the grounds behind the Veterans Memorial Building.
1983
Grand opening of the new CAC/Senior Citizen’s Center at 1745 Mission Dr. Contributions totaling $100,000 from more than 300 local residents and community groups helped make it happen.
